Shared Vehicle Disinfectant Procedure

All drivers of University vehicles are required to disinfect vehicles before and after each use. Instructions to disinfect are listed below:

Supplies to have available for drivers:

  • Disposable plastic protective gloves (or quart size plastic bags)
  • Tube of disinfecting wipes, or 70%+ rubbing alcohol & paper towels, or Formula 409 & paper towels. (Make sure cleaners are safe for skin and won’t harm vehicle surfaces).
  • Hand Sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol content)

Steps to disinfect:

  1. Wash hands with soap for at least 20 seconds or use sanitizer
  2. Put on protective gloves (or quart size plastic bags)
  3. Wipe down all touch points with disinfecting supplies including, but not limited to:
    • Key & key fob
    • Steering wheel & controls
    • Dash controls
    • Interior door buttons & arm rest
    • Center console & gear selector
    • Visors & rear view mirror touch points
    • Seatbelts
    • Exterior door handle
    • Dispose of gloves (or plastic bags)

Prior to refueling, wear protective gloves and discard gloves after fueling or wipe down gas pump handles and keypads as they are touch points where you could potentially bring new germs into the car.

Have hand sanitizer in car for cleaning hands after making stops.

Do not set heat/air conditioning on recirculate.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Cover all coughs and sneezes with elbow, then use hand sanitizer.

Please stay home if you are sick!
